How Esther’s Courage Helped Me at Work

Esther’s courage in the face of almost certain death gives me the courage to exhibit integrity in my work habits. By following her example, I’ve enjoyed great success on the job.

As a matter of fact, without Esther, I might not be writing today.

Here are some of the things I’ve learned from the scared girl destined to overcome and transform into a strong queen:

  • Esther gathered her facts before taking action. (Esther 4:5)
  • Though terrified, Esther stated honestly what she was afraid of and why. She did not ignore the situation, or pretend things were different than they were. (Esther 4:10-12)
  • Once resolved to the truth of Mordecai’s words, Esther fasted and prayed, and recruited others for support, before making a move. With determination, she prepared herself to act on the behalf of others, even if it meant losing her own life. (Esther 4:15-17)
  • At the end of her fast, Esther kept her word and entered the place of her greatest fear. She steeled herself to die if necessary, in order to do the right thing. (Esther 5:1-3)
  • Esther didn’t reveal everything at the onset. She wisely used intrigue in her favor. She allowed human curiosity to help draw the king’s interest to her request. (Esther 5:4-8)
  • Instead of trying to invoke her own retribution to enemies, she allowed them to fall into their own consequences, based on a pattern of poor behaviors. (Esther 7:7-8)

How can Esther teach you about facing your fears? What can you apply short-term? What will you do long-term?
