Political Hotbeds — Good Quotes from Great Men

Ugh, the thought of nearly a year of political ads drains me to even think about. As we prepare to face another democratic bed of coals, I thought it would be interesting to glimpse into the minds of men who came before. Men who shaped our nation with their failures and successes. There’s much to learn from characters of days long past, how their minds worked, and what they believed in.
Some of my personal favorites, both men and quotes are listed below. These are insights I’ll consider when I make my voting decisions in 2012. I also hope to learn from another year of reading through the Bible. A house divided won’t stand, I pray this election year, we don’t allow political hotbeds to tear us apart.
Good Quotes from Great Men
Associate with men of good quality if you esteem your own reputation; for it is better to be alone than in bad company.
George Washington
Common looking people are the best in the world: that is the reason the Lord makes so many of them.
Abraham Lincoln
A good conscience is a continual Christmas.
Benjamin Franklin
All tyranny needs to gain a foothold is for people of good conscience to remain silent.
Thomas Jefferson
The greatest ability in business is to get along with others and to influence their actions.
John Hancock
Do not pray for easy lives. Pray to be stronger men.
John F. Kennedy
Any man worth his salt will stick up for what he believes right, but it takes a slightly better man to acknowledge instantly and without reservation that he is in error.
Andrew Jackson
Being too good is apt to be uninteresting.
Harry S. Truman
Don’t be afraid to see what you see.
Ronald Reagan
As I pray for our nation, our leaders, and our future, I hope those we elect look to wisdom in the Bible, and reflections from our forefathers. We are one nation under God, indivisible, with liberty and justice for all, as long as we learn from our past. The water of truth, poured on any political hotbed, will douse the flames of division.
